How can I stop my 15 year old brother Listening to Dragonforce and instill some !

Question: I'm all for each to their own, but Dragonforce is where I draw the line. Seriously, it's embarrassing. I'd almost be able to accept it if he liked My Chemical Romance or Fall Out Boy or some other such MTV rubbish. Do you think he listens to them just to spite me? Ugh. Any help would be appreciated.

My sister is the same age, and I'm having the same kind of problems. She's always listened to the usual pop tripe, but more recently she's started listening to stuff like Lost Prophets, Fall Out Boy, All American Rejects etc. (it's what her boyfriend listens to). I don't think you can really change a persons taste in music, certainly not overnight anyway, but you can make suggestions and try to nudge them towards better stuff. I make playlists of good music for her iPod, and I've started out with the more accessible stuff in my collection, mostly light indie stuff, like Athlete, some Bloc Party, The Shins, Arcade Fire etc, and hopefully she'll eventually start trying to find better music on her own.

I have the exact same problem. Since, I cannot drive yet, and my brother always has Dragonforce blasting in his car, i like to say he is a bad driver.
based on his tastes, try to get him to listen to higher 'quality' music, that dragonforce listeners may enjoy.

I personally like Dragonforce, but I can see where you are coming from. The best thing to do is cut off his flow of cash. Instead of money for a birthday, get him a CD of a band you like.

Oh, God. My little brother has entered that nerdy Warhammer-type stage too. Don't worry, let nature take it's course. He'll grow out of it.

i guess you can't change his taste, it's what he likes, so you should let him listen to it haha. I know you'll disagree and hate me for saying it, but it's his life.

Close you eyes and ears for a month or two and he will grow out of it.

Besides who are you to dictate his tastes for him? Somebody else has to think they are good or they wouldn't get air time and you would not have heard of them.

Play quality music around him, if that is your thing and he will soon come round to your way of thinking.

Just leave him be, if he likes it he likes it, the more you try and stop him the more he will be determined to listen to it and most likely a hell of a lot louder too, just to wind you up....

Wow, Dragonforce have been mentioned here a lot recently, hehe.

Maybe he /is/ doing it to spite you.
I found out that my little brother wants a Sugarbabes CD =/.. OK he's only five, but I think I need to get him listening to something different very soon, before he goes down the sh*tty Pop music route permanently.
My nine year old brother seems fond of Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver, which makes me happy inside - but he said that his favourite band is McFly, which is quite upsetting.

I say, introduce your brother to some Thrash Metal. Power Metal was influenced by Thrash, so perhaps you could get him listening to some Slayer, early Metallica, Epidemic, Megadeth etc.

Good luck!

I LOVE DRAGONFORCE!! WHATS WRONG WITH THEM!!

Well Dragonforce is fantasy speed metal. If you don't like it then tell him to play it not around you. There is people born with no music taste like people that like rap,but atleast your brother likes a type of UFO metal.LEt him listen to the hardcore and see if he changes.

Let him listen to Britney Spears and let's see if he doesn't change

what's wrong with fall out boy >_>?

i'll vote for "let him grow out of it"

You're a ******* asshole. DragonForce rule.

What taste do you want from him? Indie? Death Metal? It simply may not fit his taste, but perhaps you can encourage him to expand his tastes rather than change. You could give him some recommendations on bands similar to Dragonforce or some other metal bands that he may enjoy.

Other than that, just let him listen to DF...it's good stuff, and he really likes them.

what's wrong with Dragonforce? They're one of the most techincally precise bands out there. and they're a fun show.

at least it's real metal, unlike Chimeria and Atreyu (I like both these bands, but not the point, they're NuMetal).

Dragonforce helped get me into the metal scene: they were my first Metal concert, and one of my first ten metal albums.

Think of it this way: at least its Man's music. He COULD be listening to Britney Spears.

Introduce him to Iced Earth, Blind Guardian, Amorphis, Therion, and Echoes of Eternity. He'll find his niche from there.

Nightwish, too.

they are better than Trivium & James Blunt.
and if he wants to listen to Dragonforce ,let him cos there's a tonne load out there who are far more shite

Whats wrong with Dragon Force, yeah, its a little cheesy, but its his taste, just politely ask him if he'll not listen to Dragon Force a ton, start litening to bands you think he might like and hopefully he will find one and drop Dragon Force in the dirt.

power metal rocks, sorry gal. what's his address and i'll send him more than a car can carry?

Don`t nag him about it.You and I were both teenagers at one time.Teens like to p**s off their family.I did it with Punk in the 70`s.Leave him to it and in a few months he will wonder what he saw in that bag of crap.Get him into The Ramones.Good old fashioned no bull, fun songs.

**** Off and let him listen to what he wants. Dragonforce are a talented band and play well. How the hell can you say that you would rather listen to the twats of MCR and the ******* idiots of Fall Out Boy. At least the Dragonforce boys have talent. Get a life you idiot, get your head out of your **** and leave him be. It`s his taste and it`s what he likes, it`s got **** all to do with you.
