Congratulations on your new/old guitar. Sounds like you scored a good one!

O.K. how to string a guitar.
Removing the old string is what to do first. Then thread the new one through bottom, over the bridge and up to the tuner post. Easy so far isn't it?
Next, Here's how I do it, holding the string tight, wrap the string around the post several times. DO NOT thread the string through the tuner post hole yet. Carefull, that darned thing isn't going to behave itself, so be careful. After that, THEN thread the string through the hole in the post, once more around and thread it through the post again. Try to place the string somewhere in the middle of the wrap, this will help hold the string. Then start tuning the string. Do it this way and you won't be wearing out your wrist cranking on the tuner knob. You'll be able to change strings in a jiffy once you get the hang of it. All done, go ahead and tune your guitar. Cut off the excess sting with a wire cutter about 1/4 in an inch away from the post when your done, You can put you eye out with that stuff hanging out like that. OW!
By the way, it's advised to replace the strings on a guitar about once a month. One word of note, When replacing strings, try to replace only one string at a time. This keeps the proper tension on the neck.
A really really good idea would be for you to get a guitar tuner. Kreg makes a good one. About $25.
With a tuner you'll be able to set up the bridge properly as well.

GOOD LUCK and Merry Christmas!
