Why don't teens these days listen to Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens and James Taylor!

Question: Hey, I'm a teen and I love Bob Dylan, James Talyor and like Cat Stevens. I also hate MCR, FOB and PATD.

But to explain simply why a lot of teens listen to that junk is because it is fed to them by mainstreem media and they just take what is given to them, because it is easier to go out and find your own music. And there is pressure from their peers to listen to the same music as them, and sometimes it's much easier to go with the flow.

I don't even listen to them anymore and they were popular when I was a teen.

The world has moved on.

maybe because they can't spell without spell check.

That was music of our generation, talking to us about our psyche in our times.

The others are speaking to kids of THIS generation, about their issues in their times.

My son listens to a little of everything-- part of it is introducing them to music and letting them decide what they like. But why do they listen to who they listen to and not who we listened to? Because every generation did the same.

Lack of heart, soul and depth.
example. Michelle m.

Same reason you don't listen to whoever it was your parents listened to when they were growing up.

I listen to Bob Dylan. The man was a poet, ans so was Jim Morisson.Jimi was the god of guitar and Janis, well Janis is my favorite.
Today's bands are meaningless, and are all the same.
I feel bad for the ignorant teenagers that won't even give good music a try. I bet that the people that said that MCR is better than Dylan probably never even heard of him.
I am so glad my friends like Pink FLoyd and Beatles and other fantastic music.
I'm 17 by the way.
Peace, and keep listening to good music.

im 17 and am a big fan of bob dylan and dont even know what PATD means!

WHy didn't you liten to other (older) bands when you were younger, theses change, GET USED TO IT!!!!!!!!

ANyway there are alot of bands out there everyone listen to many bands

I still listen to old bands, but not many teens do because that's not what we like, listen to, or are exposed to.

For the same reason that the kids who listened to Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens, and James Taylor didn't listen to Bing Crosby, Tommy Dorsey, or Frank Sinatra. You listen to the music made by your contemporaries. Of course, I'm sure there are some teenagers that do like that music. But usually you don't start diversifying your musical tastes until you are in your twenties.

because the cats you named are all around 70 years old. would it have been proper for kids in the 60's to listen to music from the 20's and 30's???? get real.

Actually, the answer is quite obvious if you think about it. ...These once great bands/singers are not advertised anymore. So, if something isn't advertised, people, especially teens will not know about them, consequently, not being physically able to listen to them.

because they don't speak to teens of today. not even in my day. cannibal corpse, slayer, immortal, and amon amarth. yes.

Yea or even Sabbath & Priest, But I'd prefer if they didn't listen to Taylor or Stevens either. The wuss-factor is high enough as it is.

Becouse young people like to listen to young music...

The dominant musical style today is hiphop. That's what young kids listen to.
And the rock that is being made....is mostly metal...death metal, emo, screamo, etc.
There are some artists today who are good at soft rock though....Nora Jones is really good.
But it's not the kids that listen to Nora Jones. It's the adults who grew up listening to James Taylor, for the most part.
The only hiphop I really like....and listen to in my car....is the comedy stuff, the stuff with a sense of humor....like Snoop Dog and Ludacris.

Because todays youth is corrupt and brainwashed by the media and they think that bands like MRC FOB AND PATD are good.

try these bands out they have real talent...Saosin, Saves the day, Say anyting, Bullet for my Valentine, 18 Visions, Rise Against, Armor for sleep, Atreyu, The Audition, Blindside, Brand New, Escape the fate, From frist to last, Halifax, Senses Fail, Silverstein, Suburban Tragedy, Smile empty soul, Thrice,Thursday, Underoath, Oh sleeper, Poison the well, the bled, drop dead gorgeous

Well obviously Jessica C. is a sheep. Her parents really should have cut down on her MTV watching as an infant.

I don't think that Dylan, Cat and Taylor are nearly as accessible to our youths today. If teens were bombarded from every angle with classic rock as much as rap and pop these days, maybe they would listen more. We've just got to keep spreading the word. It's all about marketing really.

People keep saying that it is an era thing. But, they are forgetting that the 60's and 70's were one of the great peaks of American music. Artists like the ones you mentioned, have the power to speak to any generation. I would never say that about what's out today. What is considered "in" today can be out tomorrow. But the classics are timeless.

some teens like gogo were they shake they body and dance on boys because teens around my way do the samething they listen to tob tcb byb ccb mob you know reaction and other good songs email me @ valencia97@yahoo for more information i check my mail every day even at midnight or less

Im 19, my favorite songs are peace train and like a rolling stone. Some of us teens like good music.

i listen to them and i am 16

Im 18. I know of Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens and James Taylor. I've never even heard of FOB and PATD. And yes, I do listen to Cat Stevens and James Taylor occasionally.

Probably for the same reason that you and I didn't listen to Bing Crosby or the Andrews Sisters.

Because the majority of todays teenagers won't even *try* listening to real music, because, in their words, it's 'old' :(
A lot of them also listen to what their friends tell them is good, because they want to fit in. And their parents aren't exposing them to the good stuff anymore.

I can't understand such narrowminded views. When I was a teenager, I was listening to bands from the 1950's through to the present day, as I always have and continue to do.

The same reason older generations wondered why we didn't listen big band era stuff like Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Andrews Sisters, Glenn Miller etc. Kids always want something newer. Older folk of that era probably didn't like big bands.

All of the people in your list have been stars for 40yrs and they still get talked about on here ..
The bands of today MCR and the likes will be forgotten the moment they break up and the sooner the better.

I listen to Bob Dylan. And i love P!ATD and FOB. And by the way Bob Dylan was a very open-minded person, so maybe yall should be more open-minded when it comes to music these days. I can listen to a lot of different types of music.

cuz they suck.

because MCR FOB AND PATD ARE alot better

im 14 i can answer this....okayy their music is probably old and frikin gayy and if by MCR u mean my chemical romance we do..........does that answer ur question old person?

Cat stevens and James Taylor suck.
