How do you mute on a guitar???!

Question: I don't have any idea what mute means..

Answers: I don't have any idea what mute means..

lightly press down on the strings so that when u strum u don't hear a note, but just the sound of the pick on the strings.

cut the strings

You can't.
Just stop hitting the strings.

ok if you want to mute you stop playing cheez are you stupid jk

You place in in the corner and don't touch it ... that would be how I would mute a guitar!

Simple don't press down hard on the fret. You get a muted sound.

its strumming the cord or note by not pressing it down all the way. grunge and rock music does it a lot.

Palm mute.

If you play righty take your right hand and use the back end of your hand up against the strings kinda gentle and it will get a distinct sound out of it like in Unholy Confessions.

muting is when you play the note while deadening the string
with your picking hand

it's when you strum while gently grazing your palm against the strings...almost sounds dirrrty.

Usually you use the palm of your strumming hand to "mute" the guitar - this keeps them from vibrating.

As you strum - the edge of your palm (near your pinky finger) rests lightly on the strings. This "deadens" them. It can be a very effective way to play.

You can also mute a chord by lifting your left hand lightly off the strings of the chord, so the fingertips are just touching, but not holding the strings down enough so that they "sound out" when you strum - this creates a more rhythmic, non melodic sound.

Jack Johnson plays with a lot of "muting" as he goes - switching back and forth.

Simple Directions to palm muting shows below.

you just slightly touch the string but dont fret it. if you dont touch it enough it will buzz wen you strum so you know you have to touch ever so slightly more.you will get the hang of it.. good luck!

You can mute 3 ways.
1. When strumming with pick, mute strings with right bottom palm of hand. Thats if you strum with right hand.
2. When pressing chords and playing, bounce the fingers pressing chords down along with rythmn.
3. When playing, slide left chord hand in a cup position up the fret while srumming for a spit second or two.

When you get really good, you will be able to do all three of these at once.

Well mute means silent an I guess you need a ampufire i (think I spelled that wrong) witch is to make the guitar sound higher or if you want lower

good luck

Depends what you want to do:
If you want to mute the note(s) already being played, you either lightly touch the string with the next avalible finger (if you're playing a E with your 1st finger, mute with your 2nd, 3rd, or fourth) or touch it with the palm or edge of your struming hand.

If you want to make the notes sound muted, you place the edge or palm of your hand on the srtings while you play.
Another way to mute, but produces a much different sound is by picking as close to the bridge as possible
