Longest piano piece?!

Question: I'm curious as to what the longest piano solo in the world is.

Answers: I'm curious as to what the longest piano solo in the world is.

I don't know anything about the History of Photography in sound - doesn't really sound like classical music to me (Finnissy is rather obscure). However, Sorabji's Opus Clavicembalisticum takes over 4 hours to perform and his Symphonic variations ( in three volumes) could take 8 hours. Sorabji is renowned for such long works - if you check him out on wikipedia you'll see other extensive works for piano by him.

The history of photography in sound by Michael Finnissy is regarded as the longest non-repetative piano piece. It is 5 1/2 hours long!

I'm a fan of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition. It's long but I don't think it's the longest piece.

I think Elton John holds that record. Listen to "Funeral For A Friend" from the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road Album.
