Isn't it a shame that Motown got replaced by rap / hip hop.?!

Question: Motown was actually good. What happened?

Answers: Motown was actually good. What happened?

I agree. The Motown sound was great as well as the r&b and soul music from the Stax-Volt and Atlantic labels (think Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Sam & Dave, etc), the Sound Of Philadelphia (The Three Degrees,, Manhattans, Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes, O'Jays, Spinners, Lou Rawls, Stylistics.etc) The Impressions(including the solo career of Curtis Mayfield), Jerry Butler, Gene Chandler, Chi-Lites, Tyrone Davis, Dells, Betty Everett,Billy Stewart, Jackie Wilson representing the Chicago Sound. Also the funk genre with such great artists as George Clinton, Funkadelic, Kool & The Gang, Parliament, Earth Wind & Fire.

Of course we can't leave out the Godfather of Soul (James Brown), Sam Cooke, Al Green, Sly & The Family Stone, Jimi Hendrix & Prince!

For the most part. today's music is souless and passionless.
I actually feel sorry for kids today who have to listen to some of the crap the music industry brainwashes them into liking.
I

well, they are two different styles of music. Motown style of music is considered "R&B." It's not the same as rap/hip hop. I don't think it's been replaced, I just think rap/hip hop is more popular because mostly teens, etc. are buying into it...I prefer the "Motown sound" over most of today's music.

give me Motown any day!

Y'all Motown didn't get replaced by rap/hip hop. Get yo facts straight.

Jazzy

R&B is still alive and well and doing fine.

Hip hop and rap are their own things. One didn't replace the other, one just got more popular than another.

After all, styles do change, lest we should still be listening to Gilbert and Sullivan.

*sigh* these kids today .... them and their 'rock-n-roll' why can't they listen to NICE music like Perry Como?

And they're all on the 'pot' too!
