Why do people think country music is stupid?!

Question: I love it and I like other types of music but most people think it's stupid.

Answers: I love it and I like other types of music but most people think it's stupid.

Because they're uneducated idiots. Country is the purest form of music, which mixes gospel, blue grass, southern folk, swing, jazz, and other forms of southern and southwestern styles. The words speak of family, life, love, working hard, heartaches and sorrows, and having a good time. People who don't like country, just don't understand it, or are so closed off emotionally, that they are afraid of the emotions that a good country song will churn up. So that is why people don't like it. They are either uneducated, close minded, turned off emotionally, or just flat out too immature to understand it. I hope that answered your question good enough. Take care, and may God Bless.

they think country music is about smelling bad and spitting in jars. those ppl are wrong! carrie underwood and taylor swift are awesome singers! and they're country!

more often than not, its because they haven't actually heard the good artists. also, they're more likely to judge it based on stereotypes of it being hokey and twangy. personally i love it, especially the greats like reba, garth, martina, george strait, brad paisley, and patsy cline. they are all such great story tellers and entertainers.

i know what you mean, its because its not the "in" style of music, stupid i know, but also people think its a bunch of redneck crap and stupid music WHICH ITS NOT...people in my class all listen to rap and r&b but i think that music is stupid,,,,,,,i love country music and i like some other stuff but to me there music is stupid

I don't i like it.

because they've never actually listened to it...they just believe the stereotype "dogs, pickup trucks, ex wifes"...but there is soooooooo much more to country music..the songs tell stories about real life. If people took the time to listen to some country I'm sure they'd find at least one artist they like. Anyway I say:
IT AIN'T GOT NOTHING IF IT AIN'T GOT TWANG!

It's usually because they have been told by their peers to say it... and also because they have no education in the genre'.

If you were raised listening to Rap or Rock.... why would you listen to Country Music with an open mind????... See my point??

I really cannot agree that "most" people thinks it is stupid. Most people I know love country music. I guess it depends upon your age, the area of the country you are from and your circle of friends.

Ally said it pretty good.
I couldn't love country more. I mean George Strait, Alabama, Hank, Joe Diffie, Little Texas, Lonestart-come on! That is pure talent right there.
Usually the don't give it a chance. But really it is a matter of preference. They don't like how it sounds or they just sterotype it-lost my dog, care, woman, and house. (I know there are a lot of those, but there are ones that are not about losing stuff!)
If you are from the country you are more likely to like it. Say if you were from the streets of New York-you probably can't relate to it as much. They don't know what it is like "down on the farm" the weren't "born country" so they don't give it a chance. Plus if they grow up listening to Rap & Hip hop-they aren't likely to switch if everyone they know is listening to rap & hip hop
I don't like rap, because I can't relate to it. I relate to country. Just a matter of preference I guess.

The answer is "stereotyping." Somewhere -- and I do not know WHERE this started, having just read a book on the history of WSM radio and country music's rise to importance in Nashville (and the U.S.) -- people obtained the notion that country music was by and for people without teeth, shoes, indoor plumbing, or an education beyond the third grade. I will say that I haven't seen any books on rock and roll written by people with earned doctorates, while learned professors from Dr. John Rumble to Dr. Wade Hall to Dr. Bill Malone to the late Dr. Charles Wolfe all penned tomes about country music. That hardly makes rock and roll "stupid," does it?

Furthermore, a number of rockers have recorded country songs (one of George Thorogood's biggest hits is a cover of a Hank Williams song; and when I visited the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ten years ago they featured a clip of Bill Monroe singing "In the Pines" that morphed into Nirvana singing the same song!) and are unashamed fans of the genre.

If people wish to believe stereotypes instead of discovering things on their own, that's their loss.

Probably they think the only people who perform or listen to country are toothless, beer drinkers, wife beaters, cheaters, and uneducated. Nothing could be farther from the truth. People in all walks of life enjoy country music. I think one of the main reasons today's country is so different from what I grew up with is "the powers that be" figured if it sounded more like rock (which is my own personal opinion of how it sounds today), they would draw a bigger audience. I like rock (the oldies), but I don't want my country music to sound like rock. Even though I like some of today's "country", to me nothing can beat Loretta, Conway, Merle, Patsy, just to name of few........

Who really gives a rip what others think? I crank the Kentucky Headhunters just like these A Holes crank their rap crap.

I don't know why. When I was in middle school my friends (I had a class of 21 kids) always made fun of me because I didn't listen to (C)rap and I still don't. Now I am in high school and I thought I would meet someone who would like country music but I still haven't. When people find out that I like country music they make fun of me and never talk with me again. I don't let it get to me anymore but I wish that people wouldn't judge me like that. Oh well at least I have got my horse and my cowboy hat.

It has heart. Those that don't like it just are closed minded.
I absolutely love it!

BECAUSE THEY READ MY QUESTIONS AND THEY KNOW I'M A MORON, SO THEY HATE COUNTRY MUSIC!
