What ever happened to Grunge?!

Grunge was a product of the early 90s, the antithesis to Hair Metal. As good grunge bands died out (The Toadies, Nirvana), others had to shift from their grunge roots as the music scene shifted to pop friendly songs. Pearl Jam, who released two magnificent albums (Vitalogy and Ten), degraded into a shadow of their former self, attempting to make pop songs. Some of them weren't bad, but they never lived up to their former glory. The need for grunge, I suppose, in today's music scene, simply isn't there. Grunge was a rebellion against "THE AUTHORITY" and the music industry of the 80s, and sadly, that is what we are slipping back into. Nirvana saved us from hair metal, now someone needs to come and save us from the poor rock bands of today that spawned in Nirvana's (and the rest of the major grunge bands) wake.
Nirvana did not create grunge, but they did make it mainstream accessible. Nirvana aren't even the best grunge band ever, that distinction to me goes to the Meat Puppets (Cobain admitted borrowing some of their material.) However, Nirvana blended pop and grunge, and the "SEATTLE SOUND" was born.
It died with Kurt Cobain.

I have never heard it (Not that I remember). But it must have gone out of style. I am almost sixteen. But I am going to listen to some now, have any recommendations?? :)
Like all other fads, it faded away. But fads tend to resurface twenty years after the go away. Wait until around 2015. It should be back by then.
Kurt Cobain was the King of Grunge, he created it. I guess what he did was pure and what everyone else tries to do like him completely sucks and dosn't even fit into the category.
