What is the best, LEGAL, music download site?!

Question: Keep in mind that if you're getting the music for free, there's a good chance that it is NOT legal.

The choices are all so confusing. Some charge a monthly fee, and per song, and others just charge for the songs and have no monthly fee.

I'm looking for the lowest per song fee, and if possible, no monthly fee. Also, I'm looking for the largest library. Many of my favorite songs are "deep cuts", meaning songs that were not released as singles. 10 points for the most helpful answer. Thank you.

I really like Yahoo music. It's got the cheapest per song rate I've seen. (I did quite a bit of research before subscribing.) It does have a subscription fee which I pay on an annual basis but subscribing gives you the cheapest rate per song as well as the great benefit of streaming music to play on your computer without paying any download fee at all. That way you can actually listen to the entire song on your computer; you just can't burn it or put it on your MP3 player. (If you want to do that, you have to pay to download it.) In addition you can use the "radio" feature (on your computer) which introduces you to all sorts of new music without having to download anything. I regularly listen to the "radio" part of Yahoo music.

The library is pretty extensive, although there have been things I haven't been able to found. (Some of it is related to copyright/licensing issues, though, as opposed to lack of depth in the database, because when I look elsewhere, it's not there either.)

The searching capabilities and features are okay, I've seen better and I've seen worse. It seems to be improving with each upgrade.

The playlist and "burning" function are relatively easy to use...and seem to be getting better. (However, I really hate that you cannot get a printout of the playlist as a part of the standard software. It's a cut and paste and a ridiculous waste of time. That drives me crazy.)

Overall, I love my Yahoo music subscription.
