Question: when someone tells me that cradle of filth is a rock band my blood starts to boil up....i mean why do people think that bands like my chemical romance and simple plan are similar to mushroomhead and korn? its not that i dont listen to rock and have any kind of hatred towards it. its just that rock and metal are not the same genre. whats your opinion?

i go off on people who do that, it annoys the hel* outta me when they say things like that..or say that a band like fall out boy is metal or somthin, they just don't know what they are talking about and thats extremely aggrivating. i even heard on the radio once that hellogoodbye was emo! gggrrrrrrr!

You have to understand that metal has long been a sub-genre of rock'n'roll. Ever since the late 60s. So I believe metal is rock, for sure. But certainly Not the same as say, The White Stripes' brand of rock.

rock is far from metal...though, some prog rock n stuff could have a metalish sound--like s.o.a.d
metal is brutal rock kinda in the same genre but if u look at the lyrics and listen theres a clear difference. plus theres a lot of different kinds of metal black metal, speed metal, death metal etc.... thats kinda like saying hip hop and rap are the same or country and bluegrass are the same
Metal is a sub genre of rock........they're not the same.
Metal is rock, but rock is not necessarily metal, kind of like squares and rectangles. Iron Maiden and Scorpion are metal, but rock can be anything from the beatles to the rolling stones to def leppard. Just like soft rock, metal is a category within the category of rock.

Metal's like rock like punk is like rock like progressive is like rock is like indie is like rock...
It's a subgenre. They are a rock band, just as The Ramones are a rock band, Porcupine Tree is a rock band, pretty much anything with a bass, drums, guitar, and keyboards with that "rocky" sound is rock. But Cradle of Filth is metal, The Ramones are punk, Porcupine Tree is progressive. It's just a bit different from rock.

No they are not the same. If you look at the history of it and compare real rock bands to real metal bands you will know the difference.

metal may have derived from rock but there is a fine line between the two the lyrics and sound are totally different i mean right now im listing to raining blood by slayer now if i was to turn on lets say three days grace which i do like too there is a dramatic difference in them but they are both good genres but no not the same thing

I love rock, but i dont like metal at all.
they're REALLY close but i believe metal is a bit more hard rock
pretty much just more screaming and stuff but rock can be more soft so they need both apparently...
