Question: if you could have one job in the music industry without being in the actual band, what would it be? would you be the producer? the choreographer(even rock bands have those now..sheesh)?the promotions director? the sound coordinator?the list goes on and on..............

I'd be the guy that just hung around and caused dissension in the ranks while drinking all the booze and telling the groupies that "I'm with the band."

I was trying to get into engineering for a little bit, and it was a very cool experience. If I could get paid enough to pick my projects and only do a couple a year I would probably do that, but that job is the divorce machine and the hours can really suck. Incredibly rewarding though when you like what you're working on.
I guess that is trying to be realistic about it, I suppose in that regard and with the same parameters the producer would be the cooler way to go with it, but I would be an awful producer. Too timid.
A couple buddies of mine are trying to get into the management and promotion side of things which sounds pretty exciting from listening to them talk about it. That would more realistically be my choice. Trying to shop a band and a record you believe in. Making someone with a lot of talent who nobody knows about a successful group. Sounds incredibly rewarding, and it could pay pretty well by percentage if anything comes of it, and the hours don't have to be so ridiculous (I'm married and trust me the hours involved with making a record are just unhealthy). It is a gamble though, I guess like any time you work based on a percentage. You could end up doing a lot of work for nothing.

I can't decide! One of those three. Or all three, no actually..that's suicide, three jobs? That's what I call stress. Lol.

seriously I would take any job like working the merch table, bus driver, promoter, manager... whatever!!!
I'd be a sound engineer, because it is really interesting technically. I've done it before, and it's basically getting paid for listening to cool music and making sure everyone can hear clearly, that all the channels are working and the equipment is functional. You learn loads! =oD

I'd be the person in charge of wardrobe, staging promo photos, I'd design the album art, and be an unofficial roadie.
that's a really good question, if i can choose, i would be the song writer or the producer
