1.They both put out good albums.
2.They are both unlike the average rapper (Kanye with a different dress style, Lupe with a different style of rap.)
3.They both have the chance to make an impact in a game where it is really becoming commercialized.

Supposedly they both got that "Backpack rapper" distinction, also they are both part of the group Child Rebel Soldier along with Pharell, They worked together on Touch the Sky (which was Lupe's first real exposure to the mainstream), I guess they both kinda are seen as not thugs, although a lot of Lupe's early stuff was pretty intense. They're just both different then a lot of the typical mainstream
edit: Stef I don't know when CRS is planning on releasing anything. I did like US Placers though and I read that they got enough songs recorded for a full length album but it all depends if they wanna go through with it, I hope they do!

other than that, u got me... I guess it's just because Kanye helped put Lupe on the map.. but they both have UNIQUE styles about them, which isn't as common as we like to pretend it is.. I think it's a Chicago thing too though.. Look at :

I actually think their voices sound quite similar. But that's pretty much where the similarities end.
