Singing Stage Fright Help??!

Question: I never sing infront of anyone because i have the worst stage fright. I want to do a song for my choir's Pop Show, but i think i wont be good and that people will laugh when i mess up. Can anyone tell me how to get over it? If you can think of any songs i could sing in the show that would be good too. Please make the songs sung by a girl.

You know why I had stage fright? Because I cared what the audience thought and figured that they were analyzing my every note. Even at my 3rd grade piano recital, I just KNEW everyone was criticizing me. And now, I just don't care what they think. All I can do is my very best and there will always be people who are better and more talented than me. And they can go find their own choirs to sing with.

Truth is, everyone in the audience is there to support their family member or friend that is in the choir. They could care less if your voice squeaks or cracks or if you forget a lyric. And there isn't anybody that will laugh at you, after all, YOU are the one with the courage to stand up in front of everyone and sing, not them.

I think it just takes experience and practice to overcome stage fright. Once you have the experience to handle your mistakes, you become less afraid of making them.

Have a great time with your singing! It's joyous and makes everyone happy.

instead of looking at the crowd when singing or making a speach it usually will help if you look just above the crowd. they won't notice and u won't be staring at wierd faces

Zoey, the secret to overcoming stage fright is to channel that nervousness. Unless you are really a seasoned performer, stage fright is a given when you perform. But if you take that nervousness and turn it into positive energy you'll be alright.

Maybe start by singing on the way to school unless you take the bus or by car. its much easier and thats how i got over my stage fright.

I agree with the other person, don't look at the audience, look over them. If you do look at them pretend they are naked, they won't be so intimidating. But remember one thing, people are there to hear you sing, they want to hear you sing, so don't think they will laugh. The other thing, is that no one but you will know if you goof up, and if you do, do not admit it or apologize for it either.

breathing is sooo important. everyone is gonna tell you to relax but dont listen to them, just concentrate on being confident and relaxing that throat. i once had an audition and i was shaking i was so nervous. but i pushed open those doors, gave them a HUGE smile and strode in confidently. Inside i was nervous but their reassuring faces made me calm down. by acting confident i actually felt confident and i guess the judges liked me because of that. i got call backs. also everyone is different but for me looking at one person and channeling my energy there helps me focus and do better.
i would sing popular in the play wicked. always makes the audience laugh if your peppy enough and can act.

alright, well, i can tell you straight off that i've had loads of experience singing in front of people. but you know, it's weird because i don't mind singing in front of 1600 kids during the talent show but when it comes to even singing in front of my family, i can't do it. i can say that yes, right before i go on stage i get so nervous and i feel like i'm going to puke at any given moment. but right before i go on, i just stand and breathe big breaths. and just say to yourself, "you can do it, you can do this. nothing to be afraid of." trust me, if you were a bad singer you wouldn't be half way over the fence, you'd be, "i can't sing on that stage in front of people and i'll probably suck." but you still want to do it so you know that you can do it. it's just going to take some time. i find it easier when i'm nervous to not think about me being on stage, and if your choir concerts are anything like mine are when i do solos, then you probably won't be able to see the crowd with the spotlights and what i do is instead of looking at the crowd, i look right above their heads. down enough where it's not noticable but not where i'm staring the person in the second row in the eye. as of songs, it really depends on what your voice can take. and when you say pop, i'm thinking like christina, britney like girly pop. i don't really know what your voice sounds like so it's hard to tell you what actual song to sing, but you know mandy moore, colbie caillat, something like that i guess.
