Have you ever liked a song, only to realize it was because it was pretty much pl!

Question: When Puddle Of Mudd first came out with "She Hates Me," I liked it. I wasn't sure why either. After a while, it hit me like a ton of bricks. It's because I liked the Suicidal Tendencies song "I Saw Your Mommy."

When I first heard The Toadies "Tyler", I loved it... dark, melancholy, morbid....
...then I realized it was a blatant rip-off of "Where is My Mind" by The Pixies.

Still love Tyler though..

puddle of mudd sucks, everything they do sucks.

Yep, Red Hot Chili Peppers "Dani California" only to realize Tom Petty's "Mary Jane's Last Dance" was pretty much the same song.

yea Dani California by Red Hot Chili Peppers

Yeah only one song that i heard and liked a lot was Dani California from Rock Band.

Never happened to Me personally. I will say however about 16 years ago, I use to just absolutely love informing totally clueless people that "Ice Ice Baby" and "You Can't Touch This" Were total rip-off's of "Under Pressure" and "Super Freak" So many of them would get so vehemently angry too, it was droll.

I really liked "Smells Like Teen Spirit" when it came out. Then someone pointed out to me that it's almost exactly like Boston's "More Than A Feeling"...it didn't completely take the song away from me, but I was a little disappointed.

Edit: I agree - it's definitely not at the top of my list either.

Given - OMG...THAT'S why I love that song so much! I never put the two together!

No, never happened to me, but like Darth Maul said, when I point out to people that Ice Ice Baby "sampled" its bass line from Under Pressure, they think its because I hate rap & refuse to believe that rappers can come up with good beats.
But the thing is, since when is Vanilla Ice rap?

Well, I can't think of any I *didn't* know about, but one song I only like *because* of it's {official} sample is :~

Hung Up ~ Madonna

And I have to agree with Darth about the 'Under Pressure' thing. Though what really gets to me is when someone goes on about how much they really love the song that whoever wrote, not realising it's a cover. I hate it when the real lyricists don't get the credit they deserve.

the offspring's "Why don't you get a job"sounds like the beatle's "Obla di Obla da"

I thought it was ok, but Boulevard of Broken Dreams (Green Day) is pretty much Here I Go Again by Whitesnake. Of all the bands to rip of.....

Have we reached the end of chord progression meets melody line originality?

I certainly hope not but damn, it's gotta be gettin tough out there.

If you can stand it, check out a few seconds of Bruuuuuce's latest single and ask yourself, was this blatant... or not?
