What is happening to the music industry?!

Question: It's a world of Pro Tools and hip-hop one hit wonders.

Big record companies are taking away the artists' creative control.

There are very few artists out there making original music and I doubt much of it will have an impact on music history.

Where is music headed? Is there a revolution in the works?

The Internet will give more power to independent musicians. It will enable them to showcase and distribute their music in ways that are unheard of twenty years ago and it's already happening. It's a good way to break into the spotlight and be recognized.

growing

I agree, I don't even listen to the radio anymore. Rock music sucks right now, so does the hip-hop music.

I think people just aren't cultured like they used to be. They will just put anything on the air!

the answer is in your question... it's all about the industry now. they don't care anymore about the music.

there is plenty of original hip hop, you just have to want it. i could recommend some good stuff youre just not going to find it on the radio.

Rap is the last musical evolution....everything willl now come full circle...no more record stores..download music from websites

i totally agree with you! however i dont think everyne has gone to 'hip hop one hit wonders". matchbox 20 puts out decent songs- in my opinion, and there are others that i cant think of right now.....

The US music industry caved to American Idol types--butt- ugly-no expression-or-style losers. We need to kick Idol of the air and have a new American Music Renaissance.

AMEN!!

I have no Idea :(
I pray someone real comes out soon.

Yeah it's sad huh. People seem to be obsessed with electronically generated music completely created in the studio with "musicians" that really don't have any talent. There are a lot of underground bands out there that are extremely talented, though they're not likely to go mainstream due to record companies not wanting to take a risk. As far as mainstream originality their doesn't seem to be much of it, with a few exceptions like the Dave mattews band. I think music has hope though with various sites on the Internet dedicated to revealing talented amateur musicians.

music is a changing growing indifferent industry
music exectutives are trying to create music for the people
and the people of the present demand fast results and immediacy
so the music is immediate and fast, creating less work for musicians and less power and meaning

for those who still cling to the nogistalgic days of music that seems little more than folk-lore, i am sure that we can find people who thought that in that day, the music of that time was just a travisty compared to what it once was.
who in beatovens (pardon my spelling) day would think that the beatles created legitimate music?

its all about time and perception of the people

this is the revolution
and we create it

I believe music if it goes the way it is now it is going in the shitter! Yes their are some great artists/bands these days but 90% I believe are just music industry tools. We have to get people buying music again which should indicate to artists/bands to make better music. I believe people download music because they are apprehensive about the album and they just want 1 song. That means that artists/groups need to make a solid record rather than make 1 or 2 good songs and put filler into the albums. What happend to playing music because you love it and not to make money! Until this happens music is going downhill!

Hon...things change..Yet there is so much talent out there..Unsigned bands can make there own Cd's, make a cool website and get a following. It is hard work, nothing is easy. Yet has it ever been? I remember the days of payola..and yes there were the one hit wonder groups...I love music.........

Here's a simple formula for you to remember how the music industry works:

Marketability > Talent and passion

It's sad, really.
