Live Albums?!

Question: Is this trend dead in the new millennium ?

I just wanted to get an idea if your favorite bands have ever put out a live album.

If they have, & they have more than one, which is your favorite?

We can safely assumed that pretty much all of the classic rockers definitely have. :)

We can safely assumed that pretty much all of the classic rockers definitely have. :)

The Used came out with one this year called Berth. It also features some DVD live stuff. Most of the bands now are not coming out with actual live CD stuff. They are coming out with live DVD's. Taking Back Sunday come to mind.

Alice in Chains, anything live by them is amazing... for lack of a better word. Bands these days CAN'T do live well because of all the producing and mixing that goes into their Cd's. For example, I always thought The Used was pretty decent, until I heard their live album. We are talking nails on a chalkboard bad.

lucero put out a live album and it's awesome. just one though.

The Ramones Greatest Hits Live
Dropkick Murphys- Live on St. Pattys Day
Alison Krauss and Union Station has a really good live album, too.

Favorite live albums,
Exit Stage Left - Rush
Frampton Comes Alive - Peter Frampton
Live At Leeds - The Who

How could I forget, credit to the answerer four spots below for reminding me. Good calls, man.
Live At Fillmore East - Allman Brothers
Live At Budakon - Cheap Trick

Love those albums, great great albums.

Suck on this by Primus.
Jane's Addiction's XXX is one of my favorites too.

Blackmore's Night :~
Past Times with Good Company
Paris Moon {67 mins selection from new live DVD}

Led Zeppelin :~
The BBC Sessions
How the West Was Won

Jethro Tull :~
Live at the Isle of Wight
Bursting Out
Ian Anderson plays the Orchestral Jethro Tull

Fleetwood Mac :~
Live
The Dance
Live 2003 {short disc released with the DVD}
{several unofficial 1975 - 1989 bootlegs have been 'properly' released in various countries}

Of these, my favourites are :~

Blackmore's Night : Past Times with Good Company
Led Zeppelin : How the West Was Won
Jethro Tull : Live at the Isle of Wight
Fleetwood Mac : the various live bootlegs!

Peter Frampton - Frampton Comes Alive
Bob Seger - Live Bullet

I think Jake nailed it- these days bands tend to put out live DVDs as opposed to live CDs.
While we're on the subject of favorite live albums, how about:

Allman Brothers "Live At Fillmore East"
J.Geils Band "Full House"
and
Cheap Trick "Live at Budokan"

These three definitely stand up to the test of time.

Well I think we all know, and I'm sure everyone here agrees with me, that It's Alive by the Ramones is the unquestioned best live album ever made.

Metallic K.O. by the Stooges is very entertaining to say the least and occasionally the sound quality can be overlooked to hear some great music too.

We all know what I'm going to say......

Jeff Buckley ( HA!...big surprise!)
he has out two live albums that are full shows and another that is a compilation of live songs.

I can't just pick one....grrr
-Live At Sin-e (originally an audition for Sony that was turned into an EP and later released in its entirety)
-Live At L'Olympia
- Live At Selina’s, Coogee Bay Hotel (Sydney, Australia, 3-1-96)....bootlegged

Yes. Opeth just released one, their 2nd live one. And dredg had one to! it was brilliant! but i must say, with dvds and surround sound stuff, live cds arent as popular.
Muse had one too, and so did Coldplay.

J Mascis, the lead vocalist and guitarist for Dinosaur Jr, came out with a live acoustic album titled Martin and Me about 5 years ago which I was really impressed with. Known for his distortion and fuzz, the acoustic side showed layers of sounds that you can tell in the electric versions. Also included were a few covers he'd never done before, including originals by Skynard, Carly Simon, and The Smiths. Excellent performance.

I also have numerous live bootlegs from many of my favorite bands but the majority weren't actually released as a live recording.

I have a lot of live CD's and I'm lazy... so I'll just tell you my favorites.
Frampton Comes Alive!
The Wall 1980-81 Is There Anybody Out There?
Nirvana Unplugged
Eric Clapton Unplugged

...There's more than I thought. But I guess those are my supreme favorites.

Some of my favorite live albums are,

Blue Oyster Cult - On Your Feet Or On Your Knees
John Cale - Fragments Of A Rainy Season
Costello & Nieve - For The First Time In America
Lou Reed - Rock n Roll Animal
The Rolling Stones - Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out
Santana - Lotus
Steppenwolf - Live
Thin Lizzy - Live At The Tower, 1977
Warren Zevon - Learning To Flinch

I really like the live cd/dvd released by the used titled berth.
Another one is city and colour's live cd/dvd, really amazing live!!

Frampton Comes Alive! It is the ONLY live recording where you feel like you're there.

Well, Sigur Ros recently released a live DVD/documentary, which is really cool. It's a bunch or free shows they did in their native Iceland, and what I love most about it is how most of the shows were in these really isolated towns and villages, and practically everyone in the towns showed up, from really young children to graandparents and everyone in between. But you're right, fewer bands seem to release live albums nowadays.

Dani G:
What about Mystery White Boy? And what's the last one you mentioned like, I've never heard it?
