I'd have to say Metallica. And yes, their old albums are way better.
slayer is more consistant
but metalica has beter melodies, harmony, and much beter musicianship. listen to all the covers by clasical orchestras.
I agree that new metalica is a load of S@$#% but even the black album was good.
I say Metallica because their writing is done much better. Metallica has a much better understanding of music and their songs flow much better. I mean anytime I listen to a Slayer song and the solo kicks in it honestly sounds like they are just trying to play as fast as they can, no musical structure to it whatsoever and it doesn't seem to go with the song at all. Plus James Hetfield is 10 times the singer that Tom Arroyo will ever be.
