Fans of Underground hip hop...I gotta question for you?!

Question: How would you feel if you woke up, and ALL of your favorite Underground rappers were signed and played on the radio for everyone to hear...

Sounds great...but do you think they would be able to live up to mainstream expectations...label expections...tours...media...Huge fan base...

Would you like all these stans being fans of your favorite rappers??? Wouldnt it make them seem watered down???

What do you think???

ooomg I would be soo pissed. It's happened before when one of my favorite singers MIA all of a sudden is all over MTV.

Yes, it would make them seem watered down, the appeal would be gone, you wouldnt seem as special to be listening to them. I think some of them could handle it, but other underground acts actually would like to remain underground. Like.......I dont think MF Doom could handle it or even wants to handle it.

wow.. i dont know what i would do..

Ive had that feelin before.. haha

Chammilionaire used to be underground, now everybodys on his Jock. I dont even listen to him that much any more.
Yeah i agree with yungnerd.. alot of em wouldnt be able to handle it.

I heard Doom actually goes out in public places wearin the mask

I would love that. The making of real money would be an even stronger ambition to do what they are doing. They would ot have too many stans though, unless they became commercialized.

If they where making the same dollar bills like the mainstream hip poppers then I would be happy for their sake.

But I don't think most would be able to live up to the expectations......the label company's couldn't handle it either.

And hell naw would I want the chick who is poppin' her lip gloss while doing the superman, and checkin her duffle bag at the front listening to what moves my soul....

Great dang question pa!

honestly if no one changed their style up or even werent successfull being mainstream, i could give a **** =)

as long as dudes still makin real *** **** and arent changing to live up to the mainstream hype, then its all good

I'd actually be probably happy that they got there..IDK bout "mainstream expectations", I just care if the music delivers. ANd If my fav rappers had stan's I'd probably welcome them (somewhat)

**** if I care, they are trying to get money to, it's selfish to want to keep them for yourselves. If they sold out it wouldn't be because they were on the radio, it would be because they made their songs specifically to get on the radio. But if they do that I would probably just listen to their older stuff.

Stat Quo
Saigon
Bishop Lamont
Papoose
Ca$his
Joell Ortiz

are all gonna impress me!

Well, that's interesting but let me answer your question in a different manner. If all the underground artists I listened to were magically on the radio, then there would be no such thing as heavy rotation.

Stans aren't a problem. It's so easy to catch a stan so I wouldn't sweat them. Ask them a simple question about the artist and what happens? They don't know. Do that in front of their friends and the embarassment will force them to learn something.

Tour? That would suck. A concert here and there is fine but a tour... I don't like that idea.

It all boils down to the quality of the music.

Well considering what is considered "hip-hop" now, they would not last. The whole Underground scene has a totally different vibe from Mainstream. Now I'm not saying they will not get a bigger fan base. I'm just saying what the media says is good music is not gonna rate them as such because of it not being the "in" style or what they feel is a money maker.

And let me just say that Kanye is a POP artist!

I agree with yungnerd. Same thing with MIA, my fav Reggae singers started getting known & on BET & places & i went bananaz!! I think most under ground rappers r too good for the industry these days. Real hip-hop is whats under ground, not like 50 or whoever.
