Answers: I am older but todays music just sucks and sucks really bad. sorry young folks

It's really on a downfall and has lost it's track. Ever since Grunge/Alternative entered the music scene rock has never been the same. In my opioin the only way it will return to what it is supposed to be is when a ground-breaking band comes with the sound that rock once was then more bands would start following in that direction and eventually rock would be back.

When I said "rock once was" I mean bands like Aerosmith, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Alice Cooper, KISS,Black Sabbath,Queen,Van Halen,Iron Maiden and many others within those genres.

Dead, buried, Stake throught it's heart

I'm 32... and though I'm not amazed with the current emo culture (or whatever that means) I still can finds bands that I like such as Muse or Rise Against.

There's always been crapppy music, it's just that we tend to forget it.

How true, i wouldn't even call it music.

I like the current state of metal.

i think its ok. rock will not die, its just pop n rnb etc is currently more popular with the youth of today. personally i hate that crap but you can still find some excellent rock bands if u look for them

I agree. Nothing like the days of Aerosmith, Zeppelin and Ozzy. I only listen to classic rock anymore.

DEAD.

Nothing new coming out, so bands are making covers of classics. Lame.

Im only 26 but my assessment is that rock and roll had its last worthy innovation somewhere around 1985. everything after that is just digestion and repetition. That isnt to say there arent good bands, in the 80's I think most of the innovation came from altering rock, and adding new features, mostly synth and fusions. Nowadays everyones so obsessed with either hip hop or regurgitation of earlier sounds. I find it depressing sometimes, but mabye its for the best to let rock lie. Its not as though there arent plenty of good rock bands left to discover from the past, and theres nothing wrong with looking forward to new things. The electric guitar/drumkit combination in my opinion has seen its day, but that doesnt keep me from continuing to love my Kinks and Gang of Four records. I hear new stuff that is interesting, but I cant call it rock.

Emo is killing rock! I am pretty young still and I constantly find myself listening to 80s and 70s music becuase it was just so much better! But don't get me wrong...there are some good rock bands these days too...like Avenged Sevenfold and System of a Down

Hey....I'm 19 and I think that today's rock bands suck!!!!!! I love classic rock bands like Aerosmith, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, etc. I also love Scandinavian metal bands like Nightwish, Hammerfall, Sonata Arctica, etc. Today's rock bands are just so pretentious and they ain't got skill. In my opinion, they stress more on image and looks than good old musical skills. It makes me cry to see the state of rock today. How I wish I could go back to the seventies or eighties or early nineties.

Dead, we had the funeral for it about 19 years ago!

I have studied the music industry for quite some time and have a degree in the recording industry....so, unfortunately, i tend to analyze a lot of music today both good and bad....and here's how i see it (just my opinion) Everyone says that rock is dead...these people are idiots that are waiting by the radio to hear something that reminds them of Aerosmith. Granted, yes...Aerosmith is great and was great back in the day....but it's 2007....you're a fool if you think musicians are going to de-evolve their sounds to sound like the 60's, 70's, and 80's....get over it. There are many great new bands out ther currently, people just don't take the time to find them. They sit in their cars and if they don't hear a song they like on the way to work, they claim that they know all about the music business and it will never "be like the good ol' days" The good ol' days ended for a reason. its called evolution. Give me a break. Try browsing iTunes, take a chance and buy a new CD you know nothing about, go to local shows, or better yet....learn to appreciate the good music that IS out there. I could name dozens of newer incredible rock bands that have their own style, interesting lyrics, chellenging instrumentals, creative melodies, you name it. That's not to say that there aren't a lot of bad bands out there too...but there have always been bad bands in music. If you want classic rock, go live in the 70s. So overall, i think the current state of rock is not as bad as it's made out to be. Older people want older stuff, and younger peopel want new stuff. No one will ever be a happy....unless you just appreciate music.

Rock has been "has been" for a while now. It's still cool, and powerful, but not what it once was. The question is, where is that power now? Check out the all girl band Uncle Earl and you'll understand my prediction that rocker parents will be shocked to see their teen-agers taking up the banjo and fiddle and dressing like farmers. It's called "old-time"music and it's the next big trend. You heard it here first.

rock is going down
no question
im all for punk rock but its sad that rocks fading away and all we have to remember it by is the past

There's some good. It's just that the mainstream bands that claim to be rock are ruining it for everyone. They give us rockers a bad name.

Good will win, it always does.

In 5 years time, it'll be "Who the ****'s FOB?"
