Who thinks Lars Ulrich is a big cry baby?!

Question: uh... yeah! He started out as a tape trader when he was a tennager, taping albums of bands and distributing them to his network, and getting other tapes in return... sound like file sharing to anyone?? What's the difference, aside from the amount of access the internet provides? But now that it's HIS royalties at issue, he's freaking out. And hey, don't REAL bands actually release music once in a while? I think Metallica is afraid to release after all this time away, and after how lame their last few albums were. Cliff is rolling in his grave...

My most vivid image of him is a few years ago sitting on a park bench, giving an interview (rant) to MTV about Napster.

I'm sure a few people know which one I'm talking about.

The more appropiate question is "Who gives a rats @$$?!"

Hate him...such a whiner!!!!

From the sound of my question, I think the correct answer here is: You do

Nope. I think Metallica helped catapault heavy metal to a whole new audience and level of respect. I think he was part of some of the best metal records ever made. I think Metallica can be mentioned in the same breath as Black Sabbath, Motorhead and other pioneers of the genre.

I also think Metallica went out of their way to allow fans to tape record their concerts, and distribute those tapes via a fan-based bootleg network.

I have some experience in the music industry, and have produced music featuring musicians you likely respect. I can tell you that royalties are often the lifeblood of a musician.

Also most musicians aren't as rich as we think they are. David Geffen has 100 times the wealth of Lars Ulrich, and these days its even harder for musicians to make a living.

Lars was proven right in the end anyway. Napster was forced to cease its illegal activities, and now we have iTunes and others like it, that allow songs to be downloaded for a nominal fee, which is all Lars ever asked for to begin with.

Yup. He didn't need to either, becuase the record companies whine enough on his behalf. He didn't stop anyone, really, and just came off looking like a, well, whiner.

Me.

Everyone

i do

Have you seen him in Some Kind of Monster (DVD)? He just pisses and moans almost the entire time. Shut Up Lars and just play your drums!

Here's a prime example:

More like a sniveling b!tch!

Agreed! It's part of the reason I consider Metallica to be sellouts. In about 1983 they would have been thrilled to have had something like napster to have gotten their music out. Now Lars and the rest are all whiny and crying cause they're losing a tad of their pwecious money? It's sickening to Me. They became the very thing they professed to despise. Anybody remeber metallica's early days? How they would rant about corporate bands and the corporate metal scene of the 80's. Now they are at the forefront of it.
What a crying shame
