"American Hardcore" is a great documentary, it's about how punk first began in america, got loads of interviews and is very interesting =)

It's not a 'punk' documentary, but "No Direction Home" is about Bob Dylan, it was done by Martin Scorsese (directed Goodfellas, won lots of Academy Awards) and I really think it is one of the greatest docs ever. Plus Bob Dylan influenced most of those punk bands at some point. Hope I helped!

Another State of Mind
Social D and Youth Brigade go on a cross country tour in '81 and meet up with Minor Threat in DC.

and

The Decline of Western Civilization
Early L.A. punk scene featuring The Germs, Black Flag, X, and more.

best one i've seen is D.O.A about the pistols US tour with loads of well recorded (and played) live footage. Also has other bands such as Generation X doing Kiss me Deadly which is the best performance in the film. Interviews with Sid and Nancy are almost spinal tap. Also a hilarious local london band called Terry and the idiots with a guy called Terry Sylvester (I think) who are hilariously terrible playing in pubs. videod this off the telly in about 1992, but cant remember it being on before or since. If you like the pistols this is the real thing and its far better than Swindle which i think is total crap.

Punk: Attitude is a pretty good overview of the development of punk and features many of the usual suspects.

End of the Century covers the Ramones pretty thoroughly, - lots of interviews and live footage. I think ends after DeeDee's death and before Johnny's.

For the Clash, try Westway to the World and Rude Boy. Westway is more of the traditional documentary, while Rude Boy follows the Clash through the eyes of a roadie and has some great live footage.

I'm eagerly anticipating The Future is Unwritten, the new Joe Strummer (ex-Clash) documentary from Julien Temple (Filth and the Fury). Hopefully it's better than Let's Rock Again, another Strummer documentary which I felt was kind of depressing.
