well, lots of people write songs about what they went through or are going through such as troubles with relationships and things that make them happy or sad... or maybe just something kinda funny. You can write songs about everything just as you can with poetry.
if you do country dont write about bad break ups, cheating spouses, drinking, or any of that crap. it's too old. write about something else. rock is centered on i hate u and killing ppl and rap is centered on sex, drugs, and money. be original. just give it time. it will come to you.
Do you have a dog or cat? Write about them as if they were human. Sometimes it's easier to observe and express about things for which you don't have so many complex and contradictory emotions.
