To the hip hop head, does a Grammy have any real Merit?!

not as much anymore. personally, a grammy doesnt matter to me that much. but i think it means something to the artist that gets nominated. they wanna win
It doesn't mean anything to me personally but im sure it would mean allot to somebody in the rap game or the artist themselves. The Grammy award is considered to be the 'cream of the crop' for awards according to some artists.
You think with the years, a Grammy award would become more prestigious, however I don't think it has. There are so many great artists out there who aren't even granted a nomination, nonetheless the actual trophy. As a fan, a Grammy means nothing to me, but if it means something to the artist then good for them.
I could care less. Soulja Boy is nominated for grammies, but not UGK, Mobb Deep, Redman (he came back!), Joell Ortiz, etc. I mean they know nothing when it comes down to the Hip Hop catagory.
LOL!! NO...I mean..I don't ever expect canibus or Sean P to ever be nominated, and they've got better stuff probably almost every year than the grammy winner..

the grammys would only be representing the artists who are in the music industry, like the billboard chart toppers and basically it's like a popularity contest.. so basically it's the opinion of the general public, the majority of which do not really understand hiphop.
it should matter to the artists however. after all, it is still an achievement, and it will be a marker of success nonetheless. It should give the winner better opportunities in the industry since he will have gained more credibility and marketability to the industry moguls, since winning the grammy means that the person's music is accepted by a lot more people and not just the "elitist hiphop heads", and although it is this crowd they should mainly cater to as hiphop artists we can't really blame them for trying to sell their records to everyone and give it a more universal appeal since after all it is their job.
if an artist can maintain his credibility to real hiphop fans and still win a grammy, then obviously that person is very successful to have been accepted by the general public as well as the die hard hiphop fans and deserves the recognition and praise that comes with the award.
however, if the artist is, for example, vanilla ice or kevin federline, then them winnning the grammy just shows how the award is not based on the real hiphop lifestyle and culture but just rap music in general.
either way, it shouldnt really matter to real hiphop heads, since grammy or no grammy, we know whats real.
Whenever Chamillionaire won his Grammy....i don't think it was based on the content on his album...it was based on success..and that's probably why Soulja Boy and much more unskilled rappers are being nominated....To me, my favorite artist doesn't have to win Grammy or any kind of awards..I'm a dedicated fan no matter what, so if Cham keeps puttin albums out regardless how much success he had on a previous album...Ima still show support..

Actually, the only time it had any real merit would probably be when DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince decided to boycott the Grammy's cuz they were acting like little bi****s.
