More Rock History 101: Remembering Roy Orbison?!

Question: Today is the anniversary of Roy Orbison's death. On December 6, 1988, he collapsed in his mother's bathroom and died of a heart attack shortly afterward. He was 53 years old.

Considered by many to be one of the pioneers of rock and roll, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. His career spanned more than four decades.

Does anyone have any stories, opinions, comments or fav tunes on "The Big O"?

Although everyone and their dog has covered it, I still prefer his version of Pretty Woman.

I love the song "Running Scared". I loved seeing the TV special "Roy Orbison: A Black and White night" with Bruce Springsteen, and k.d. lang, - it was great to see everyone have so much fun singing and playing Roy's music.

in my mind the song "crying" is one of the greatest ballads of all time.

Crying is my favorite Roy song! ;)

Unfortunately, I only know the Big O from the Traveling Wilburys(a supergroup). Other than that, I can't say I could pick out a song sung by him. He seems like a Bob Dylan-esque kind of character.

A great voice. Most of his early R&R stuff didn't really do it justice, although a few like 'almost 18' and 'chicken hearted' he pulls off well. He also did a great vesion on Bye,Bye, Love.
Better at the power ballads though. Only THe Lonely; The Crowd; I'm Hurtin' a long list of great music
