Will progressive rock ever be accepted by the modern rock listener?!

Question: Big Neal Morse fan here...Spock's Beard, Transatlantic, and of course the solo stuff. Dream Theater is awesome, too. Why don't people appreciate these artists more? Prog rock is by far the most difficult rock genre to write in (successfully) and is where true art lives. Not to say bands in other rock veins don't work on their craft, but Blink 182 and Slipknot wouldn't have a chance of writing a relevent prog album. REACTION!

Well, Prog rock isn't accessible. And that's probably a good thing. The Punk band Bad Religion wrote an AWESOME prog album once. But then they lost all their fans.

I think so. The Mars Volta is prog., and I know lots of people that like them. I've even heard "The Widow" on a modern rock station once.

Tool, Mars Volta and Coheed & Cambria seem to think so.

Like mentioned above, The Mars Volta and Tool have broken into mainstream and bands like Dream Theater, Opeth and Porcupine Tree are gaining wider audiences. Will they ever reach the massive success of MCR? Heck no and it's a good thing. But it is gaining popularity.

I like Modern Rock, Heavy Metal and tons of other genres but I've had a long love affair with Progressive Rock, Metal and Electronic and Spock's Beard is one of my favorites. Eloy, Pink Floyd, Porcupine Tree, Steve Roach, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Symphony X, Klaus Schulze and Tangerine Dream are among a cast of many more favs.
