Question: The beef stems from before 50 Cent was popular. They were lablemates (Both on Columbia Records) at the time. Track masters was producing the bulk of 50's music, ad were also cool with Nas.
Nas helped 50 out by appearing on one of his songs. 50 even gave a shot out to him on the song "Your Life's on the Line". "Who's the best? um... 50, Jay-Z and Nas".
Anyways, after 50 was dropped from Columbia, Nas supposedly turned his back on him and didn't really try to help him out. 50 got sour, said a few things and the beef was started.

Well, I guess Nas may have dropped Fifty's name down while stating why hip-hop is dead (or dying, which is more technical and true), and giving a list of people who messed it up. I guess 50 Cent was near the top.
Cause he know he can't go verse for verse with him. Nas will lyrically MURDER 50 and he scared. Hell, Kanye outsold him. I don't know why 50 is soooo overrated! He can flow, but he ain't the greatest.
