Guitar frets and strings?!


Question: when i pluck the 6th and sumtimes 5th string the string seems to bounce off the fret causing a ringing noise. how do i get rid of this? also is furniture polish a good polisher for guitars?

good luck man... and no don' treat a guitar like it's a chair.. seems like the action on your strings could be to low .. bridge could be raised

Maybe the fret bar has worked it's way up. try tapping the fret bars down with a SMALL hammer. If you still have the problem, try adjusting the bridge up on the top

You need to grind down the frets or tap it with a malet. But i wouldn't use furniture polish on a guitar because it stains it after a while.

well you might not be pressing down hard enough. that is a common problem that takes practice to get efficient finger strength. if your confident that this is not the case then try changing your strings. that is usually a good all purpose quick fix to almost every guitar problem. if that doesnt work then you should look at the neck from the very top keeping your eye level with the neck from above the head.you might notice that a fret is poking out higher. you could hit it with a hammer( i suggest a small rubber hammer so you dont ding your neck up). if you dont feel that you can do it right take it to a shop.

if you dont see anything particullarly unusual, then take it to a shop. remember that not every guitar problem is a do it yourselfer. good luck bro
