REAL COUNTRY MUSIC=do you remember MERLE KILGORE?!

Question: Merle Kilgore told a GREAT ghost story about Johnny Horton once on one of these "haunting" shows on the travel channel or the Discovery channel. He related that Horton was kind of into all this metaphysical stuff, and he had told Kilgore a rhyme once - "The drummer is a rummer and he can't keep the beat." He instructed Kilgore to commit that to memory and keep it to himself. One day, Horton would contact him from beyond the grave and use that rhyme.

Shortly thereafter, Horton was killed in that awful car crash. Kilgore waited for weeks, but nothing from the deceased Horton. Well, as Kilgore related, twenty years later, he was working for a radio station somewhere in Texas, and he was contacted by a seance group in New York. Of course, by that time, the message Horton had given him to memorize was the farthest thing from his mind.

The guy on the phone said they had gotten this message for him months ago during one of their sessions and, not being familiar with country music, had no idea who Kilgore was. One of their members had run across him on the airwaves while traveling through Texas, and now knew how to contact him to give him the message.

The drummer is a rummer and he can't keep the beat.

Kilgore told this story as the absolute truth, hands down. I believe him. Do you?

Yes! He co-wrote the song by Claude King "Wolverton Mountain"...which just so happens I live at the foot of this REAL mountain....Clifton Clowers happened to be a real person too!!! He also co-wrote "Ring of Fire" with June Carter Cash for Johnny Cash (my all-time favorite)!!! Wow...a big Arkansas connection there!

He was Bocephus's Manager and compadre for most of his carreer. Tall man with a mustache.
