REAL COUNTRY fans..ever heard of DANNY DAVIS & THE NASHVILLE BRASS?!

Question: Danny (born George Joseph Nowlan in that mecca for country music -- Massachusetts) was a trumpet player for Gene Krupa and Art Mooney in his younger days. He also produced a lot of Connie Francis' records before he moved to Nashville, originally as a record producer. I think it was Bob Ferguson who convinced him to put together a brass band playing country music, and Danny Davis & the Nashville Brass was born. They won a Grammy in 1969 for "The Nashville Brass Featuring Danny Davis Play More Nashville Sounds," and they were CMA Instrumental Group of the Year for six years in a row.

I met Danny when I was stationed in Jacksonville, Florida and the Nashville Brass played at the Jacksonville City Fair. It was an honor because I was a big fan of theirs when I was little.

Danny is now 82, and according to his web site he's writing his autobiography.

Yeah. I have a couple of his albums. Not many associate the trumpet with country, unless you're June Carter, who had the idea to include the horns in Ring Of Fire, but I was a Danny Davis fan when I was a kid. Did quite a few gospel tunes on that trumpet of his.

I agree with Dan W. and thought that the horns sounded kinda good in some songs.

Sure have heard of them but don't know enough to jump in here with an answer.
