For those of you familiar with Garth Brooks: What does the song "Beaches of!

Question: I had never heard it before I got the CD/DVD set that Wal-Mart is selling of his greatest hits. I can understand that a man died, and his wife basically had a mental breakdown, but what does the whole part about the beaches/water mean? There's no ocean near Cheyenne, Wyoming, lol. Is it something figurative? Another thing, did the wife die too later?

No ocean but there are lakes and beaches http://www.hikercentral.com/metros/16940...
And yes she dies later "she ran out into the water, and to this day they claim, that if you go down by the water you'll see her footprints in the sand, every night she walks the beaches of Cheyenne"(her ghost) The song is about a rodeo cowboy who "picks a bull no man could ride" He ends up dying. The wife goes crazy and runs in the water to drown herself.

This is one person's opinion from a forum i ran across

""The Beaches of Cheyenne” is a song about a woman who lost her love in a rodeo accident in Cheyenne. She is physically walking the beaches (I think in California), but her mind and heart are in Cheyenne with her lost love. I really like the image the writer paints."

Beaches of Cheyenne represent the rodeo arenas.

you're gettin' there stillmillcowboy!!! I haven't heard that one in a while. But like the others said, its about the rodeo and a man gettin' a bull nobody can ride and a woman grieving herself to death while walkin' the beaches of the lakes near Cheyenne after her man dies while trying to ride that bull.....It's a purty song...

Philosophically Tex is right. But if you study the lyrics, the cowboy and wife/sig other were living in Cali:
"And their dreams that they'd been livin
In the California sand
Died right there beside him in Cheyenne."
