Jimmie Driftwood wrote it.....Eddy Arnold and Johnny Cash both did this song but I'm not sure on when they recorded it.

Eddy Arnold in 1959, The song was written by Jimmie Driftwood.

Eddy Arnold beat Johnny Cash to it... and as a matter of fact, Eddy's version beats Johnny's. Blows it out of the water would be more accurate.
