Could be the age of the strings. I always change the strings when I buy a new, or especially a used guitar. Make sure you have the guitar store change them and intonate the guitar, especially if you don't know how to do it. The store might just do this at no charge because you just bought it from them.

it could just be old the strings that come on a guitar are usually cheap in the firs place change them and if it continues to happen you could have a problem with uneven pressure on the strings so you can take it to a guitar tech he can probably fix it in 20 minuter for about 40 or 50 bucks

It's usual to break strings until you get the hang of it.
Also strings that come with guitar are not the best available.
No sweat! You'll learn like we all do by breaking them.

Strings can break for a couple of reasons. I once had a problem with a low-end guitar that had a barb on the fret-wire which broke the string. All it needed was alittle sanding. Chances are, as you said, the strings are just old from plenty of play-time in the music store. If you continue to have this problem, check the fret-wire or get elixirs. Those are hard to break.

actually you should just get new strings and then if the problem continues and you are using pics stop using pics cause they can hurt the strings mean i use pics but i don't play too often and i have an acoustic guitar instead, i wonder if it makes a difference but i think it is just the strings i mean hey the only time i broke a string i think was in the first week so yeah i hope this helps

Its unusual for strings to break when they are that new.

However, don't stress about it too much! These things happen. And luckily.. strings are pretty cheap to replace!
Go to your local instrument shop, and get them to replace it.
While your there, just explain what happened.. they might know the cause of it.

Good luck!

Ok...I am sure you would like a quick fast answer, but, its not going to be that easy. First things first...GET NEW STRINGS. I play almost every day and replace strings once a month (sometimes I think it should be every other week). Next look down the edge of the neck from the headstock (that's the end with the tuning knobs) and see if the neck is straight or has a bend. If its bent you can adjust it with the Truss Rod at the Headstock. Don't get crazy with this adjustment make very small turns.. Now...with the neck straight check the height of the strings off of the frets. They need to be around 1/16th inch above the fret at the 12th fret. This can be higher or lower depending on your preference of feel. You can adjust this with the truss rod or the bridge adjustment (this is at the other end of the strings opposite the headstock) . These are some basic adjustments. If any of this worries you I would just take it to your local guitar shop (NOT ONE OF THE BIG GUITAR CHAINS) and they can do in for around $20 bucks.

they were prolly cheep strings. and the b string breaks the most often.(im not sure why but its more likely to break then the high e string.)
