Why is there so much sex, get money, violence and ignorance in some rap music to!

Question: I was driving and listening to the radio today and Gucci man (I think that is what his name is) feat LIL Kim song came on. Talkin' about "Get some in the front seat of the Hummer...she's a very freaky girl"....."Lick my lolly pop...pop it like some bubble gum".....Come on r they serious? I am a 80's baby. I am not that old but some rap music sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then after that 50 cent song "Get money came on" What can a young person who doesn't have any since of direction get from some of the rap music today? I haven't listened to rap music for a while since having my children...they like to listen children songs while we drive and as a parent I am not into the things I use to be into. But am I crazy or is there a need for change with some of the rap music of today.

I am a seventies baby (79 to be exact) and I feel the same way. They are ignorant to the realness of the world. They only worry about themselves (for the most part) and refuse to grow up and be responsible citizens, for example TI. You don't live in the hood, yet you still act in that fashion. What the heck is his problem! You have to learn to break some of your old habits. They want to glorify jail, selling drugs, unprotected sex with multiple partners, cars, gawdy jewelry, and anything negative you can find. The bad part about it is that kids listen to this crap and are so easily influenced and become enthralled with this genre. What is the world coming to..........

Andrew P I liked the answer you gave but not too sure on the statistics u mentioned.

And BJ you seem very racist and prejudiced! Report It

Oh Yell_79 I forgot to add that it seems to me that the world is coming to an end. I mean how long can the world last the way it is? Eventually something has to happen. Report It

  • It sells

cuz thats just the way it is. things will never be the saaame.

I think u should watch Hip-Hop vs. America on BET. They will answer your questions

cuz they probably ran out of thingz to rap about. so they go to dances, shoes, cell phones, other thingz. yah, itz get annoyin but not all rap is like that. u just have to look in the rite places.

and plus, 2 songz don't make up the whole hiphop/rap genre either.

so you're taking 2 songs as a basis for ALL rap music today?

where was the violence in either song you mentioned?

    Its a mess....

You should listen to Chamillionaire..its good for both you and your kids..his album Ultimate Victory is good

cause it is been promoted, and ppl sadly listen to it

you just have to look for good artists..& support them.

Don't listen to the freakin' Radio.

Sadly, you are right in that a great deal of rap insults & degrades many people; particularly women. Much of Rap condones & promotes crime, drugs, pimps, gangstas & violence while viewing women as " hoes " through profane lyrics. Maybe somebody should ask LIL Kim " Do you kiss your momma with that mouth ? " ------ I wonder how LIL Kim would feel if somebody also inserted the words " like LIL Kim's sister does " after the words " freaky girl " ?? ---Some Rap needs to show RESPECT.

because the young black kids love that crap, they think its cool, thats why they are all in jail and in trouble, with no direction in life, they have very few positive idols to follow, especially in tv, music, entertainment world

I think that rap music is a bad influence. Here's why.
Cereal and toy companies know that if they repeat the same 30 second commercial enough times during children's programming, then they can influence what cereal and what toys the kids ask their parents for. If kids were NOT influenced by what they saw on TV and by what they heard on the radio, then the cereal and toy companies would not spend hundreds of million of dollars making and airing commercials. The cereal and toy companies pay out those millions because they know that these ads work. The fact that these commercials work is proof that kids ARE influenced by what they hear and see on TV and radio. Consider that a 30 second commercial can influence your child about what cereal to buy, or what fashions and attitudes are cool. Now, add the element that most rap songs are 3 or 4 minutes long, and that some kids get a steady diet of these songs on a daily basis. Thats many many more times the influence of a commercial that they may see 2 or 3 times a day.
Now, add another bad element; 70 percent of all black children are born into households without fathers. These kids have little or no male influence in their lives, and mom can only do so much if she is working. So, you have a very large group of kids with little or no guidance what so ever. They are very very suseptible to suggestion, and no one is telling them that the message in this music is wrong, or even that it MAY be wrong. Then add the element that the message in the music is VERY attractive to young people. Drugs, sex, crime, and irresponsibility are not only represented in this music, but its glorified to an extreme degree. Pimps, hoes, and drug dealers are heros now, not bad guys, and rap has a lot to do with that.
So, you have a very bad message, being sold to a group who of kids who are not only very immpressionable, but are also at a very high rate of risk, AND who have no one explaining to them that the message in this music should not be taken as advice on how to make choices about your life. Its a really really bad idea, that is hurting a group of kids who are the least able to deal with consequences of bad decisions.
Art imitates life initially, and then consequently some of life is influenced by that same art. Rap didnt cause the initial "chaos", but it does help to perpetuate it, and it influences those who are hearing it now. There is a reason that young people use the same language, slang, and have the same dangerous attitudes on the west coast as they do on the east coast, and it has nothing to do with culture or thier parents.
