Well, there are several ways depending on what you are playing. If you want to change the pitch of each string individually than just tighten or loosen the tuning screws to the desired pitch. If you want to raise the pitch of all the strings to something higher you can use a devise called a capo which clamps onto the neck and raises all the strings. If you are just doing it for one note just bend the string.
