A true blue American!!!

Marty was part indian. His real name was Martin David Robinson. His family was rather poor as were many families of the legends.

He was caucasian american, born (just afew miles from my birthplace) in Glendale Arizona

Hi HateNu. I dont have a lot of background knowledge on classic country artists but this is one particular one that I do know a little about. Kenny Sikes is Marty's cousin and still lives in Arizona(ok, well, as of 2000 he did) Kenny's mother and Marty's mother were sisters

This is a "Small world" story...lol I spent an entire Fall traveling Arizona, Nevada, Colorado and the entire four corners area camping mostly due in part of my interest in Native American Culture. On those travels, we spent four days in Canyon de Chelly which is where we met Kenny. I don't want to turn this answer into a long story which I can almost feel coming out of me right now...lol but all I can honestly offer you is that

Marty Robbins is part Choctaw Indian on his grandfathers side. His grandpa was the one that inspired his gunfighter songs. His Grandpa was part Choctaw, French and German born in Alabama, He also was an Indian Scout for the Army and an Arizona Ranger nicknamed Texas Bob so you can see all the little references in his songs that were inspried by grandpa "tex"...lol There are still many living realtives all over Arizona, Alabama, Utah. Thier families were huge, I think his granpa was one of 10 or 12, his mom was one of another huge brood.

Anywho, to actually, answer your question, Marty Was born In Arizona to parents of different ancestry. Part of his ancestral line is Native American (choctaw), German and French.

I am not so sure his family was that poor. He had a huge family of relatives but from what I gathered he was brought up more out of learning you worked hard for what you wanted and you paved your own way

edited... Oh good this is stil here. I need to clear something up for you (my memory was not so good...lol) I just talked to a friend and told them I answered this question abut our trip to Canyon de Chelly and he said I have that wrong The man we met was related to marty but not cousins. He said that Ken told us his grandmother was Marty's sister. Sorry about that.
