The singing lead....?!

Question: This fella had the singing lead in "Fighting Buckaroo" and "Riding West". By 1943 he was established as a best selling hillbilly recording artist. Floy Case said this about him "this tall, slender Texas lad with dark wavy hair and twinkling blue eyes is singing his way into the hearts of people everywhere." His Midnight Jamboree help turn these wannabees into stars----Loretta Lynn, Carl Smith,& Georgle Hamilton IV.
Some of his play list:
Let's say goodbye like we said hello----Early Hits of the Texas Troubadour-----When the Sun Goes Down Vol.10:East Virginia Blues----and Howdy!:25 Hillbilly All-Time Greats..

Hint-- He was not a naturally gifted singer, instead he did things in more of a story-like fashion.
