Underrated? Personally I find it's one of their best, but it lacks any major hits that would support massive record sales as News of the World and A Night at the Opera would. Queen II is every bit the child of early '70s fantasy influence that we see in Led Zepplin's work of the period, though I think Queen II is much more consistant and flowing an album that LZ's, and is really filled with gems that stand out on their own. Seven Seas of Rhye, the March of the Black Queen and White Queen are all hits on their own merit, Father to Son is really a touching work and the sequence from Ogre Battle to the Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke and Nevermore and then on to the March of the Black Queen conceal the opera-like ups and downs of a story-telling masterpiece that would fully develop in their next albums, Sheer Heart Attack and a Night at the Opera. For any fan of rock music, Queen and Queen II are definitive must-haves - listen through the albums late at night from beginning to end and you'll realize why the world misses Freddie so much (and John Deacon, wherever he's hiding, well done mate, we miss you!).
