Well, the first thing that comes to mind is price. If you're not willing to spend at least 600 dollars, you're going to have to go with the Standard Plus top. They both have set necks, and rosewood fingerboards. The Custom has block inlays whereas the standard has the regular les paul inlays. I like the inlays on the standard better than the custom. The Standard has masked bindings (there is no lip over the top of the body) so does the custom, but the custom's bindings go over the neck, the body, and the headstock. They're both made of solid mahogany wood, which is a good wood for guitars. The Standard has chrome hardware and the custom had gold. It's all a matter of preference hardware wise. They both have Alinco humbuckers. Sound wise they would probably sound a lot alike. It's all a preference of what you want your guitar to look like.
