Start with heavy blues influenced classics like Led Zeppelin (Physical Graffiti is arguably their best album), Blind Faith and OLD Rolling Stones (no I know they are Old now, I mean their OLDER stuff before tattoo you; which really isn't That BAD). Pre Sammy Hagar Van Halen is also some great stuff (before the album 1984, which isn't so bad either.) I'm obligated to recommend Frank Zappa's 79 - 87 stuff because I'm such a big fan, but in all likely hood, you may have trouble appreciating the complexities of a 30 minute guitar solo and may aso just find his style of parodies, simply offensive (no offense).
Nirvana, Foo Fighters, alice in Chains, Pixies & Frank Black, and of course Radiohead are all great 90s- 00s bands., but if you hve to go with one great contemporary band , go with the Smashing Pumpkins...skip their first albulm though. Look for stuff off of Siamese Dream, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness & Adore.

to be honest alot of people liek different types of rock...
there ols school rock,and of course... new stuff like MCR, FOB the whole new rock scene.....
personally think i iron maiden is the best rock to download because they have so much variety in their songs... yet they are all still rock... and also paramore....
