Some of them, I enjoy.. Others just murder the songs. I agree with you on the Faster Pussycat cover, just not too great.
Some of the ones I like:
Easy- Faith No More
This Magic Moment- Lou Reed
Crazy- The Kidney Thieves
Fiddle and the Drum- APC
The Final Countdown- Children of Bodom
Don't Fear The Reaper- HIM
Whiskey in the Jar- Metallica
Cinnamon Girl- Type O Negative
I Put a Spell on you- Marilyn Manson

Covers that I thought failed...
I fought the Law- Green Day (did they really think they could do better than the Clash and the Dead Kennedys?)
Summer Breeze-Type O Negative, it could have been so much better.
Jolene- QueenAdreena.. just didn't hit the mark for me
Runaway-Misfits
Soul Power-Smashing Pumpkins

pearl jam...............oh where o where can my baby be the lord took her away from me

No i think it sounds retarded.

The only song I've really liked that was covered by one of my favorite rock bands is "No Quarter" by Tool, which was orginally done by Led Zeppelin. I like it more than the original.

Depends on the song for me. Say if my favorite band (MetallicA) covered um...Don't Cry by GNR (would never happen though) Then I'd be pretty pissed. But Metallica has a thing with covering songs. They make them better than the original sometimes =-O

yes, because it shows that they can do more than just rock or metal

The only song i have liked done by another artist is Enjoy the Silence by Lacuna Coil from Depeche Code. I like both, but Lacuna Coil made it more dark colored in a way. Although many have redone this song, i thing Depeche's and Lacuna's are equal to me, but bands like HIM killed it. Also like Personal Jesus better from Marilyn Manson than Depeche Code.

yes, i loved marilyn manson's covers of sweet dreams, personal jesus, and tainted love
rob zombie's version of brickhouse was just way too funny!! i liked it though.

Usually not because they usually botch it.

But, sometimes a band will improve a song that has been written by someone else. Some examples are:

You really got me - Van Halen
All along the watch tower - Jimi Hendrix
I will survive - Cake
Take me to the river - Talking heads
several tunes by the blues brothers
I heard it through the grapevine - CCR
Dancing in the street - Van Halen
Twist and Shout - The Beatles

i love it. it's always cool to hear what some of their early influences were.

Sometimes
Guns & Roses cover of
"Since I Don't Have You"
Is pretty sweet

Darkfish- It is Depeche Mode not Code...

I kinda liked Ministry's Lay Lady Lay
But PJ Harvey & Bjork singing "Satisfaction" not so much.
I Love Sinead O'Connor singing "All Apologies" And the Deftones "Chauffer"
I guess it depends on the song...
