Who would be more influential/celebrated if they were still alive?!

Question: 1. Jimmi Hendrix
2. Janis Joplin
3. Curt Cobain
4. Stevie Ray Vaughan
5. Jerry Garcia

Answers: 1. Jimmi Hendrix
2. Janis Joplin
3. Curt Cobain
4. Stevie Ray Vaughan
5. Jerry Garcia

none of them.

like fine artists, they're much more revered once they're dead. with nothing new coming out, their music becomes "rare" or "classic", instead of just "old" or "early work". whether they were popular while living, or not, all of these musicians are influential and celebrated in large part BECAUSE they are dead. no one wanted to buy Van Gogh's sh*t while he was still breathing...

these musicians are dead, and so people treat them like they belong in another, more transcendent category of artist--if they were alive, they'd just be another Aeorsmith. Old and out of touch.

That's a tough one. My vote would be either Jimi Hendrix or Stevie Ray Vaughn. The men were guitar gods.

Kurt Cobain or Jimi Hendrix

It's Kurt. But anyway, I'd /like/ to think Cobain would be more celebrated, however i regret to admit that this would probably not be the case.

I love Stevie Ray Vaughan - but i'm not sure about how celebrated he is already [i don't know many Blues fans].

I'll say Jimi Hendrix.

I'd Say all of the Above, because they reach out to people of different times and styles.

Jimmi would be very old by now, as would Janis Stevie and Jerry, but I have to say that Curt was getting so disenchanted with the music industry I think he would have hidden himself away a long time ago so would not have made much more of an impact than he already had done.
So if it isn't Curt, I think Jimmi was the most influential on other artists and listeners alike and it would have continued.

kurt cobain

I think it would be Jimi Hendrix by a wide margin, Vaughan a respectable but distant second place.

Morrison and Lennon....but from your list probably Hendrix.

Right now, like today, kobain would be the most popluar with the rock community. But Jimi is not close behind, think of the works he could have wrote. Its just amazing to think about the music he could have written. Jerry is Jerry, but if he almost died but survived he would be celebrated the most.

1. Jimi Hendrix by a long shot though SRV is quite good. The other players don't belong on your list with Jimi and SRV.
