To be pedantic, the correct line was "just don't remember who to send it to". From James Taylor's classic "Fire And Rain". Evidently, the song is about a friend who committed suicide.

If it's this one, It's about a young girl, Suzanne, who killed herself. She was in rehab with James Taylor, and they became friends. He left first, to go back to LA & writing songs. They didn't tell him straight away, when they found out, because he was too much of a money making machine and they didnt want to upset him.
