Is it just me or is there something about the guitar thats just...?!

Question: I cant explain it. But now that I have both a guitar and a keyboard, its like when I play the keyboard(or am trying to anyway) its like whatever almost. But when I play the guitar(am also trying to learn to play) theres just something about it that just feels different, I cant explain it. Maybe its cause its harder and I guess the harder it is to play the more rewarding it is.

Not to demean piano playing because it also needs its fair share of talent. But from what I've seen so far, with the piano its all laid out for you and it seems like its mostly a matter of coordination. But with the guitar its that and more. You actually have to bring the sound out and its harder cause of the fretting, but if you can play a hard piece right its rewarding.

Does anybody know what I mean?

Yes I know what you mean I have the same problem here. I tried to learn bass but then I felt like mastering scratching with turntables but I wanted to learn something harder so I bought a korg tr61 keyboard and now it's really challenging. So now I have a bass guitar with a cab and two technics turntables with a mixer and the keyboard in my room. I still can't master any of them. you get more respect with a guitar because you can do solos.

Not very well explained ("its like whatever almost"???) but I think I know what you're getting at.

You like the grunge and edginess of the guitar sound over the sounds you've been getting from your keyboard. You also feel that you have a more intimate musical connection with a guitar than you do with a keyboard.

Listen to Deep Purple (the old rock band, not the sappy Marie Osmond song) and older Uriah Heep. Jon Lord and Ken Hensley (respectively) could really make a Hammond organ scream. Even with Ritchie Blackmore crunching the lead guitar in Deep Purple, Lord's Hammond ripped through as a more hard core lead instrument.

As far as the physical connection goes, the guitar does demand some physical sacrifice as you're learning it, so that may be why you feel that way. Your hands will cramp up learning a keyboard, but your fingers won't bleed like they do when you're learning guitar.

Then again, you really only have to worry about one hand with the guitar, unless you're playing a Chapman Stick or you're a finger-picking virtuoso. Playing counterpoint on a keyboard is a lot harder than anything that 99.9% of guitar players will ever do. Of course most rock keyboard players don't play much counterpoint. Block chords on either instrument are pretty easy.

Why not enjoy both? You can do things on a keyboard that you could never do on a guitar, and vice versa.
