Does ANYONE like today's popular music on the radio?!

Question: If not, then why do the Top 40 radio stations keep playing it instead of artists with REAL talent like they did in the 90's?

I like a quite a few songs, mostly the emo/indie stuff - and it's embarrassing to admit it, but Umbrella, by Rhianna is my musical guilty pleasure.

I'm like you, though - I love 80s, 90s, and 70s stuff.

And no offense, but some 90s songs were crap as well...

Father: No more balloon for you! I am sick of you tooling around the village in that thing. Honking at the girls, blasting your 1980s American rock music that we got here last week.
Son: But father...
Father: Go to your palace!
Brian Griffin: Are you thinkin' what I'm thinkin'?
Stewie Griffin: Ugh, yes, just wait until they have to suffer through Jesus Jones. Pee-yew!
Brian Griffin: Not that. The balloon!

cuz most people do like it

Some of it is cool but I like also some of it is mastered. Ya you hardly ever hear good original music.

Truthfully, I haven't really loved contemporary music since the mid seventies... ( Do the Hustle...)
sigh

I like today's music, and I also like the music of the 70's and 80's. 90's was just never my thing.

I know. Its rediculous! im sure that beyonce couldnt write anything close to something like hey jude or yyz. To me, musical talent is more than just singing to midi sound effects in the background

i like it! in our place., fall out boy, red jumpsuit apparatus, my chemical romance, paramore, the click five, boys like girls are mostly played and requested...

Lots of people do like it.

I know it's hard to believe sometimes:-)

I don't think anyone can like half that stuff... I like actually being able to hear an instrument in my songs! They probably only play half that crap because they get paid to do it. That's why I like the Classic Rock station... Because its only the good stuff!

My suggestion: Use the Internet!!! Works great! You can get into all of the UK and Australian stations and listen that way! They have a lot of better stations?and music!

I hate about 95% percent of it. It doesn't take much to make a radio hit these days if it's hip hop or R&B and the only people to argue with me on that is little kids that has no knowledge about music. It's mostly a copy cat game out there now as you can tell everybody wants that lil jon beat with the whistles that i can't stand anymore. So if you have enough money do purchase a beat then you can be the next radio star

most people are 'passive' listeners. they don't really care who is singing or what the song is. they don't seek new music. they just listen to whatever is put in front of them.

top 40 has a very formulaic feel. sure, the formula gets updated every five to ten years, but for the most part, it's safe and tested... and assured to appeal to those 'passive' listeners.

well... it seems that most 13 yr olds like to hear the same songs over and over and over and over and over. I wouldnt mind hearing these songs once in a while but when the radio plays them out in the first week, and keeps playing them, it is frustrating. I actually quit listening to the radio a few months ago and now I find music online or when I hear a song I go searching for it. Ive never loved music more.

I like the top 40 songs they play on the radio these days. The 90s had maybe one or two good artists, but otherwise, it wasn't that great.

The 80s, the 60s, and the 50s were brilliant. But times change and the new generation likes rap and hip hop.

I don't listen to the radio because I hate whats popular now. Plus, with having an iPod, I can be my own DJ.

I don't listen to pop. I like reggae. There are some very fine reggae artistes even now. No slow-down in the talent there.

i dont listen to radio much anymore, most of it is overrun with mediocre songs (more like monotonous songs on constant repetition) that talk about sex appeal and booze. but of course there are a few exceptions now and then (i can't think of any examples at the moment)
the 80s and 90s were great, and they still are. its just that people have lost the ability to judge what is talent and what is entertainment

To be fair, the 90s top 40 was just as lame as today. I can't ever remember liking the radio. That's why I have CDs.
They don't ever play my favorite bands, why would I listen to theirs.

I like some of the radio's songs. It just depends what it is. The radio likes to play what's mostly appealing to a wide group of people, which is why they have a Top 40 that they play alot. Usually though I just listen to what I have.

Cause the majority like them.

most of the stuff thay play now suck what thay should do is play msi or lamb of god or hell even chamera

Only the White Stripes and Modest Mouse.

But these are both bands I liked before they hit it big.

Most of the other bands I like are well-known among indie fans but do not get played on mainstream stations.

Radio today is just as it was in the 90's and earlier, they take a song and play it to death! I don't listen to the radio for the simple fact that I don't to hear what they deem worthy of radio play and hear it over and over and over again.

Rock, hip-hop, pop...all are victims of commercialism. The execs want to just push songs they feel are profitable...there are never any new risks in songs...they seem to copycat talentless hip-hop (no, not Nas, Eminem, and other good hip-hop acts), Nickelback, Fall Out Boy, and the same formula for pop songs.

Fortunately, my rock radio station at home pays more attention to rock in the 90s. They still play new songs (though very little and very frequent), but they keep with old artists like Pearl Jam, Nirvana, The Offspring, Metallica, RATM, RHCP etc...). I normally listen to their request hours where anything can come. Whenever I'm near fast internet connection though, I'm normally listening music on one of the online stations or at youtube.

heck no I hate what's popular now..I don't even listen to the radio..why cuz all they want is money and people buy into these bands that doesn't have real talent.Plus with my mp3 player I can download songs by bands I actually like and want to listen to.

Depends entirely on the station.

they do it for the money!surprise!-the way they see it if an artist sells a million cds and has no talent compared to one who sells 200,000-they dont care.they figure 5 times more people will listen to the no talent singer.and whats sad is there right mostly.
