The simplest explanation is whether the piece is perfectly symmetrical, either in motifs or the notes making up the motif, form etc, "forwards and backwards". (Define your answer clearly!) For example, ABC - CBA, or ABCDCBA. Baroque music would be a good place to start analyses - Bach was the MASTER of symmetry! The first section must be the same as the last section and all other sections mirror images as well. Do remember that embellishments in later sections should not affect your answer.
