Since I'm in the questioning mood...?!

Question: I was just wondering what was everyone's opinion on ghostwriting. Specifically, the ghostwriting of a personal song. For example, Sauce Money writing "I'll Be Missing You" for Diddy and Royce Da 5'9" writing "The Message" for Dr. Dre.

I really don't like it..especially when the rappers then go and try to proclaim the song as their own......that just makes me mad...I guess if the rapper had a DIRECT hand in what was being said in the "personal song", then I guess it's not much worse than normal ghosting, but if the rappers' like "write me as personal song", and then doesn't do any more..that's whack

I'm not that into rap, but I really love the old school stuff. I think it is BS. If you cant write your own songs, you should not be called an artist...especially not a rapper because thats what makes a good rap...good lyrics.

I think it's pathetic, especially for a personal song. I think that rhyming should come from the heart. If all you have is a good voice, but not the skills behind it, that's cheating.

wait...sauce money wrote i'll be missing you? i thougth Mase wrote that....damn! well i personally think for personal records the artist should try and write the lyrics themselves but for the format they can receive pointers from a seaoned emcee. Dre has gotten several different rappers to pen joints for him from crooked- I to jay-z its a matter of relaying ones thoughts into poetry. but for personal records i think it should be mostly from the performer.

I think it's funny...especially the Diddy one....he misses Biggie so much he literally cannot think of what to say....LMAO....and other guys having ghostwriters...well I mean some cats just dont have talent ya dig!! And Dre has more than just people ghostwrite...they ghostproduce for his lazy azz too...

i say it is cool for other cats to get some money but when u act like u is the King S hit and u really are not....naw that ish aint cool...

cosign Buttery...

and I feel ur boredom homie!!!!!

Im brewing coffee now to pass the time....

I think ghostwriting is good only if it's for 1 or 2 songs. not all of them. I'm gonna use a non rap example. The-Dream wrote Bed, not J. Holiday, but J. Holiday wrote the rest of his songs so i'm cool with him not writing one of his songs. If it's just one song then i think it's ok but if someone gets credit for everyone of their songs and they didn't even write them than thats just dumb.

I have a split feeling on ghost writing . first I don't like it because of the reason you listed above a song you thought was from a certain artist to find out he didn't even write it takes away from the song. This is also the reason why so many people say that rap and hip hop are all lies because to many people don't write what they want.

Now on the other side there is a lot of poets who can write but cant project the lyrics in a good rhythm or flow. Also r&b wise many writers cant sing at all ,but make really good songs.Another plus for ghost writting is it helps the artist with killer flow but no potten lyrics.

On this issue I am a little stuck in the middle because I dont like to know when someone has another person write their song. But in the fact of nobody is a total package rapper meaning delivery, flow, lyrics, style, and swagger a few rappers need it.I mean think were would Jay z be(I am not hating on jigga just statin an examle)if he didnt quot other artist. This is just one of those you cant live with em but you cant live with out em things.

Its lame, Styles P even admitted he ghoste wrote for people.

Hmmm... not really a fan of it. I think there are other styles of music that can work for, but not hip hop.
Imo, if it's not real, raw and straight from the heart, then it's not hip hop. I can't respect you as a rapper if you don't know how to write your own rhymes.

And as for I'll Be Missing You - if I died and someone wrote that as a tribute for me, I'd come back from the grave and fcuking kill them.
