Better band? tool or alice in chains?!
Question: I find myself liking a lot of Tool songs, but All of Alice in Chains songs. I would have said Tool until i really thought about it. I guess it is all personal preference. It is like quality and quantity. Alice in Chains, to me had a lot of good songs. While all Tool songs are good, some are amazing. I keep contridicting myself. Ahh you aren't going to read this anyway.

That's hard to say. I love both bands equally. I think in terms of music writing and technique, Tool definitely has the upper hand. Not many bands have musicians that ALL of the musicians are extremely superb at their instrument. I can't think of a better rock drummer than Danny Carey, his player is absolutely mind blowing. As for AIC, Layne Staley had a way conveying so much emotion in every word he sang that you felt like you had been that same thing. I think AIC has an upper hand in the lyrics and dynamics of the music. Jerry Cantrell is often referred as a "sloppy" guitar player, but that is what made his guitar playing so great. So, to me, I can't really choose who is better because they're both completely different bands.

Good question I love both bands but I'll go with Tool.

That's a tough choice. Both are very talented, I call it a tie.
I personally prefer Tool. Better rhythm section. It is debatable whether the one guitarist is better than the other, since they sorta operate differently. Same with vocals. Tool is better with the songwriting though.

For the simple reason Jerry Cantrell's vocals suck. Since there is no denying that, then the edge goes to Tool, because Jerry kept singing more and more through their decline, at least live, and isn't that what counts? I seen them when they were through here with the Red Hots and Pearl Jam. It was pretty pathetic on Alice In Chain's part.

Alice In Chains easily for me. However some of Tool's videos are amazing.
