Piece of classical music...?!
Question: Ok, so i am looking for the piece of classical music that is usually nowadays played over scenes which are predominantly to do with sadness or lonliness but in a slightly sarcy way, i know how it sounds in my head but i have no means of transferring it to you guys, i really hope someone out there is on the same wavelength as me, if you have any ideas about composers or the title of the piece however loose the connection is, i can search and listen to it to see if its the one. Many thanks in advance!

It's not a classical piece. It's the main theme of Zeffirelli's "Romeo and Juliet". It was composed by Nino Rota, I think (but I'm not sure). Anyway, it is a part of the soundtrack. It is not a classical piece.
Maybe Albinoni's Adagio in G minor? Or Ombra Mai Fu by Handel? Or Vocalise by Rachmaninov?
Just a couple stabs in the dark ...
Tocatta and Fugue in Dm - J.S. Bach
Moonlight sonata - Beethoven
O Fortuna (from Carmina Burana) - Carl Orf
Yes, the love theme from "Romeo and Juliet" composed by Nina Rota....same guy who composed music for "The Godfather".
