I have to cosign with Escobar and 23rdB on this one. There were many Rap/HH groups(ex. Cold Crush, Treach 3, GM Flash, Crash Crew etc..) that were in the limelight B4 Rakim. There was a handful of "Mc's" that were holding their own. But when "Paid In Full" dropped, every artist that was in a group, or a solo artist stepped their game up. Not only did you hear a different style of rapping, He was dropping Jewels on his tracks. That was the major part of it , because during that time many people were "God Body and Earth" , especially here in N.Y. Many rap/Hh artists who are 5% state that album was the most influential album to their career.

Early '90s - Public Enemy's "Fear Of A Black Planet."

its gotta be Paid In Full that album did so much for hip hop

with out that album hip hop as we know it wouldn't be what it is i mean real hip hop not the cross over bull sh*t

I think Doggystyle, Straight Outt Compton & the Chronic are very influential 4 a lot of these gangsta rappers out now....Since the early west coast gangsta era...It was like everyone wanted 2 be a gangsta

Mr. Scarface is Back(the album) is very fluential 4 the mafioso style rappers. Without that album there probably wouldn't be a Reasonable Doubt. Its not Face's best album but he brought out the mafioso theme 2 hip-hop.

Tribe Called Quest Low End Thoery is influential 2wards alternative rappers like Common & Mos Def & Outkast...Where they have topics where they're in an eerie state of mind... & have a different smooth laid back sound.

I think N.W.A. albums...if i had too say one id say "Straight Outta Compton" album cuz that was the most "gangsta" album they had.. and i think gangsta rap *since them* has been influenced throughout the country...correct me if im wrong but F*ck tha police was on that album i think...and we all know almost every artist say F*ck tha police... some artists such as wu-tang clan, biggie, nas, jay-z i think got the gangsta rap from them

Criminal Minded- Boogie Down Productions

That album and Paid In Full brought sampling into the picture.

Ima go with ILLmatic because rappers seem to rate their skills to the format of that cd. It is almost like Hip Hop 101.

all of the 2 Live Crew albums. alot of the albums you guys mentioned have already made their impact and for the most part, subsided. 2 Live Crew on the other hand were the creators of much of the music on radio and television today. People always say, "all rappers want to talk about is booty shakin" well where do you think they got it from? somebody had to start it.
