if you're asking how it started, it begun mainly with turntables. people were spinning records for parties. at the beginning, there wasn't even rappers, there was just what we know as the "hype man" then eventually the hype man started rapping. then a record label found a way to make money off of this, and that's how it got famous. if you're asking how it's changed from then, its gotten progressively lazier. now anyone can become a rapper, make a cd, etc. and the style that everyone appreciate's now allows us to be lazier. to have a dirty south feel to your songs, you dont need much equipment or much talent. we went from social consciousness rap to gangsta rap to lazy rap.
